Kikuyu elders from Kirinyaga County have rejected efforts to split the Mt Kenya region into East and West political blocs, warning that the move could create unnecessary divisions for political gain. The elders, under Kiama Kia Ma, dismissed a recent meeting by a another faction of elders from Mt Kenya East which appeared to support the split, insisting that Kirinyaga remains firmly part of a united Mt Kenya region. They also rejected attempts to place Mwea and Gichugu in a separate Mt Kenya East bloc without residents’ consent.
