Kenyan streamer Vindee was left surprised during his trip to Germany after coming across a hemp-related product in a supermarket while documenting his travels on a livestream.
The moment caught his attention because cannabis laws in Germany have changed significantly in recent years. Vindee appeared unable to believe that products associated with hemp could be found in an ordinary supermarket.
His reaction became one of the notable moments from his livestream as he explored Germany and gave viewers a glimpse into his experience abroad.

However, the sighting does not necessarily mean that recreational cannabis is openly sold in German supermarkets. Germany has a distinction between cannabis products and legal hemp products, while its recreational cannabis framework does not allow ordinary supermarkets to operate as cannabis retailers.
Countries Where Cannabis Laws Have Changed
Germany is among a growing number of countries that have introduced laws allowing adults some form of legal access to cannabis for non-medical purposes.
Other countries with national frameworks allowing some form of adult
recreational cannabis use include Canada, Uruguay, Malta, Luxembourg, South Africa and Czechia. The rules are different in each country, and legalisation does not automatically mean that cannabis can be bought in ordinary shops.
Canada and Uruguay have gone further by establishing regulated systems that allow non-medical cannabis production and sales. Germany, Malta, Luxembourg, South Africa and Czechia have adopted more limited approaches focused largely on personal possession, home cultivation or non-commercial systems.
Germany’s Cannabis Rules
Germany’s cannabis law came into force in April 2024. Under the framework, adults can legally possess limited quantities and grow a limited number of plants for personal use, subject to specific conditions.
The German Federal Ministry of Health states that adults can possess up to 25 grams of dried cannabis. Home cultivation is also subject to residency and other requirements.
Commercial recreational cannabis retail remains prohibited, meaning Germany’s system is different from Canada’s regulated retail model.
Vindee Gains 7,000 Subscribers
Vindee has revealed that his trip to Germany has helped grow his online following, with the streamer saying he has gained 7,000 subscribers since arriving in the country.
He shared the update during one of his livestreams as he continued documenting his experiences in Germany.
The increase comes as Vindee has been producing IRL content from different locations during the trip, allowing his audience to follow his experiences in real time.

The streamer’s Germany content has included visits to different places and spontaneous interactions, giving his viewers a glimpse into his experience travelling outside Kenya.
