Fally Ipupa, born Faustin Ipupa Nsimba, is one of the most influential Congolese musicians of his generation. Born on 14 December 1977 in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), the singer, songwriter, dancer and producer has built a career that has taken Congolese rhumba from Kinshasa to some of the world’s biggest stages.
Often described as the “Prince of Rhumba”, Ipupa combines traditional Congolese rumba, soukous and ndombolo with contemporary R&B, pop and other urban sounds.
From Kinshasa to Quartier Latin
Ipupa’s musical journey began in Kinshasa before he attracted the attention of legendary Congolese musician Koffi Olomide.

In 1999, he joined Olomide’s Quartier Latin International, where he spent several years developing his skills as a singer, songwriter, dancer and band leader. He eventually became the group’s musical director, gaining valuable experience before embarking on his solo career.
The Solo Career
In 2006, Ipupa left Quartier Latin and released his debut solo album, Droit Chemin.
The album became a major success, reportedly selling more than 100,000 copies within its first month and earning gold certification. It also earned him the Césaire de la Musique award for Best Male Performer in 2007.
He followed it with albums including Arsenal de Belles Mélodies, Power “Kosa Leka”, Tokooos, Control, Tokooos II and Formule 7, establishing himself as one of Africa’s leading music stars.

Ipupa has collected numerous awards throughout his career.
Among his notable wins are the Césaire de la Musique Best Male Performer award in 2007, the Kundé d’Or for Best Central African Artist in 2008, and two MTV Africa Music Awards in 2010 for Best Francophone Artist and Best Video for “Sexy Dance”.
He has also received recognition at the AFRIMMA, AFRIMA, Trace Awards, Canal 2’Or, Ndule Awards and other African music award ceremonies.
