Elgeyo Marakwet Senator William Kisang has been elected as the chairman of the Senate Energy Committee.
Kisanga was elected unanimously on Tuesday to succeed Siaya Senator and ODM leader Oburu Oginga.
Oburu announced his resignation on Tuesday over what he terms reasons beyond his control.
"The reasons (why I am vacating) are beyond my own self-control. I have resigned. Nobody should say that I have been removed," Oburu said.
"There is no coup here. There is only a peaceful transfer, and whoever you elect will peacefully take over. I thank everyone once again," he added.
Oburu, however, remains a member of the panel.
Nominated Senator Beatrice Ogolla has been elected as the vice chairperson of the panel.
Ogolla succeeds Kisanga, who had been serving as Oburu's Deputy.
Oburu's resignation from the demanding chairmanship role now allows him to concentrate on ODM affairs ahead of the 2027 general election.
Kisanga and Ogolla thanked the members electing them, stating that they practice open-door leadership.
"I want to take this opportunity to thank members of this committee for having confidence in me and electing me as the chair. I am taking over from ODM party leader whose shoes are very big. We are going to use your guidance as our patron to ensure our people get power(electricity)," Kisang said.
Ogolla, on her part, thanked Oburu and ODM for allowing her to lead the committee.
"I want to thank the party leader for holding our hands. Also want to thank members of this committee for giving me this chance," she said.
