Three suspects have been arrested in Kisumu county following investigations into a violent house robbery, in what the National Police Service (NPS) has described as a major breakthrough in efforts to dismantle a gang suspected of terrorising residents.
According to the NPS, the operation began with the arrest of one suspect believed to be among three men captured on CCTV footage allegedly forcing their way into a victim's home while armed with pangas, metal bars and what appeared to be a pistol.
Police said the suspects allegedly stole assorted household items before fleeing the scene.
The NPS said the first suspect later provided information that led investigators to the Rabuor area, where officers arrested two more suspects believed to be linked to the case.
However, a fourth suspect identified during the investigations escaped and remains at large.
During searches at the suspects' residences, officers recovered assorted household items suspected to have been stolen during the robbery.
They also recovered a toy pump resembling a pistol, several SIM cards, tools believed to have been used to break into the victim's house, and rolls of cannabis that had allegedly been concealed in the premises.
Police said detectives later searched another rented house linked to the suspects in the same area, where they recovered more items believed to have been stolen, including a national identity card belonging to one of the reported robbery victims.
The three suspects were taken to Kasagam Police Station, where they remain in custody as investigations continue.
Police said efforts are ongoing to trace and arrest the remaining suspect.
"The National Police Service remains resolute in pursuing offenders, protecting communities, and ensuring that those who threaten public safety and security are brought to justice," the service said.
The NPS also appealed to members of the public to support ongoing investigations by reporting suspected criminal activities.
"Members of the public are urged to cooperate with law enforcement officers and to report any suspected criminal activities within their neighbourhoods at the nearest police station or through the toll-free numbers 999, 911, or via #FichuaKwaDCI on 0800 722 203, or by WhatsApp on 0709 570 000, to report anonymously," the statement said.
