Kenya Power has restored its prepaid payment platforms following a system outage that disrupted electricity token purchases and bill payments earlier on Thursday.
In a customer update, the utility company said customers can once again buy electricity tokens after services resumed.
"We wish to inform our customers that all our prepaid payment platforms have been restored and customers are now able to buy tokens," Kenya Power said.
However, the company warned that customers may experience delays in receiving their purchased tokens due to a high volume of transactions following the restoration.
"However, the high number of transactions is causing delays in the delivery of tokens to customers. We are working to clear the backlog as soon as possible to ensure real-time delivery," the company said.
Kenya Power apologised for the inconvenience caused and assured customers that efforts were underway to normalise the service.
The restoration comes hours after the company announced a system interruption that had rendered its prepaid vending and bill payment platforms unavailable across all channels, preventing customers from purchasing electricity tokens or paying their electricity bills.
Customers have been advised to remain patient as Kenya Power works to clear the transaction backlog and restore real-time token delivery.
