Treasury CS John Mbadi has defended tax exemptions granted to Mombasa Sugar Refinery Limited, telling the National Assembly's Trade Committee that the incentives aim to boost local industrial refining. Appearing before the committee, Mbadi stated that the public interest waiver on raw sugar imports protects domestic value addition and reduces reliance on finished foreign products.
