Chief Justice Martha Koome has termed the swearing-in of Court of Appeal President Justice Gatembu Kairu a major constitutional milestone. Speaking during the installation ceremony, Koome underscored the appellate court’s pivotal role as Kenya’s principal appeals body and final arbiter in most disputes. She said it ensures consistency in legal interpretation, guides lower courts, and strengthens public confidence in the justice system.
