Expanding local production of feed ingredients is the most sustainable way to lowering feed costs, the Association of Kenya Feed Manufacturers has said. Chairman Joseph Karuri noted that over 80 per cent of key inputs—such as soybeans, sunflower meal and cottonseed meal—are imported, exposing producers to global price volatility. He added that the livestock sector contributes about three per cent to Kenya’s GDP and 40 per cent of agricultural GDP, supporting millions of livelihoods.
