The Ministry of Health is stepping up efforts to establish a sustainable, government-led wheelchair service delivery system to improve access to quality assistive technology and strengthen rehabilitation services nationwide. Medical Services PS Ouma Oluga made the commitment during consultations with wheelchair service providers, manufacturers, development partners and rehabilitation experts to address Kenya’s unmet need of about 550,000 wheelchairs. Talks focused on local production, tax relief on components, lowering costs, enhancing insurance coverage and tackling stigma.
