The government plans to roll out a Sh465 billion National Feed Strategy to reduce the high cost of animal feed, lower livestock production expenses and boost Kenya’s food security and regional competitiveness. Speaking at the African Feed Conference in Nairobi, Head of the Animal Feed at the state department for Livestock Newton Kariuki said feed accounts for up to 80 per cent of production costs, underscoring the need for affordable, quality feed to increase milk, meat and egg output.
