A group of Kirinyaga County elders has proposed replacing the Senate with a National Council of Elders as the country's top oversight body, arguing the move would strengthen the fight against corruption. Led by Henry Gachuma, the elders say the 2010 Constitution should be amended to incorporate African cultural values into governance. They want the senate council of elders to comprise retired, non-partisan Kenyans aged 60 and above with proven integrity, no record of corruption, and no entitlement to a pension while serving.
