Environmental campaigning organization, Greenpeace Africa, has opposed plans by Kenya and Nigerian businessman Aliko Dangote to build an oil refinery in Lamu County. Oil and Gas Campaigner at Greenpeace Africa Sherelee Odayar warns that the project could harm one of East Africa’s most fragile coastal ecosystems. Odayar says a mega-refinery of this scale brings habitat destruction, marine degradation, oil spill risk and dangerous air pollution.
