The National Assembly’s Committee on Trade and Cooperatives has dismissed claims that the proposed Sacco Societies (Amendment) Bill, 2025, will lead to government overreach. The committee clarified that the Bill does not create a “Super Sacco” but instead proposes a secondary sacco society to strengthen the operations of smaller saccos. It also rejected assertions that the President would influence sacco leadership, stating there is no provision granting such powers or allowing interference in the election of sacco officials.
