Council of Governors ASAL Committee Chair Nathif Jama is calling for increased funding for Kenya’s livestock and meat sector to boost competitiveness. Speaking at the Kenya Meat Conference in Nyeri, Jama said the sector has for decades been underfunded despite sustaining ASAL economies. Citing Botswana and Namibia, he called for investment in modern abattoirs, quality assurance, traceability, road infrastructure, and efficient export systems to strengthen market access locally and globally.
