Agriculture CS Mutahi Kagwe has called for mandatory vetting of veterinary officers to weed out untrained practitioners. Speaking at the Kenya Meat Conference in Nyeri, Kagwe said some individuals are posing as qualified vets and treating livestock for thousands of farmers, yet they are not. He warned the malpractice threatens public health, compromises food safety, and could undermine livestock productivity and farmer livelihoods if left unchecked.
