Human rights organisation MUHURI says intelligence reports indicating that criminal gangs planned to infiltrate Saba Saba demonstrations influenced activists' decision to stay away from the streets in Mombasa. Rapid Response Officer Francis Auma said while peaceful protest is a constitutional right, there were concerns that goons could hijack the demonstrations to loot businesses and cause unrest. He urged authorities to protect citizens' rights while dealing firmly with criminal elements.
