Many Nairobi residents heading to the CBD faced major disruptions early today, with some forced to walk long distances after police barricaded key access roads. Authorities mounted security checkpoints along Waiyaki Way, Thika Road, Mombasa Road, and Jogoo Road, restricting unvetted vehicles ahead of anticipated Saba Saba demonstrations. As a result, pedestrian movement declined sharply, leaving many streets unusually quiet compared to a typical working day.

In Mombasa, normal operations continued as several activists marked the day with street protests. However, some, led by Francis Auma of Muhuri, stayed away saying they had received intelligence that goons could infiltrate the demonstrations.
