The government says the Bura Irrigation Scheme will create thousands of jobs as commercial farming expands through public-private partnerships. Irrigation PS Ephantus Kimotho says private investors have been allocated 35,000 acres for rice farming and 50,000 acres for sugarcane production, while Gulf Energy has begun developing irrigated seed cane. The expansion is expected to increase agricultural production, support agro-processing and boost economic growth in the region.
