The abductions of youths in the days
leading up to the June 25 commemorative protests
represent a grave assault on the constitution, the rule of law and the democratic values that
define modern Kenya.
Such blatant assault on the freedom of expression and association are abominable and utterly unacceptable and have no place in a nation that proudly describes itself as a constitutional democracy.
The June 25 memorial was meant to honour the memory of the Gen Z who stood up for accountability, justice and good governance in 2024. Responding to peaceful civic mobilisation with intimidation, arbitrary arrests, or enforced disappearances undermines public trust and erodes the very institutions entrusted with protecting citizens' rights.
No Kenyan should live in fear of being abducted without due process because they choose to exercise their constitutional freedoms.
Law enforcement agencies are bound by the constitution to uphold the law, not circumvent it. Every arrest must be lawful, transparent and subject to judicial oversight. Anything less is an invitation to the laws of the jungle.
Kenya has moved beyond the dark chapters of state repression. The police action witnessed before the June 25 protests cannot and must not be tolerated.
Respect for human rights, constitutional freedoms and the rule of law is not optional - it is the foundation upon which our democracy stands.
