The Kenyan music scene is witnessing the rise of a new talent who draws her strength from the legends of the past. In an exclusive conversation with Mpasho journalist Moses Sagwe, the singer known as Myron shared the details of her artistic path and her vision for the future.
Roots in the Golden Era
Myron’s entry into music was driven by a deep-seated passion for storytelling and a desire to connect people. Her stage name is a deliberate evolution of her birth name, Moryn.
She chose "Myron" because she wanted a name that was meaningful, memorable, and easy for her audience to connect with.
"I was inspired by my passion for music and storytelling. Growing up, I saw how music could touch people's hearts and bring people together,” she told Mpasho.
From School Choir to the Studio
The realisation that music was a calling came during her school years. Myron was an active member of her school choir, an experience that helped her discover her love for performing. It was during this time she decided that singing was more than a hobby; it was her intended career.
Today, she specialises in Afropop and contemporary African music. However, she does not limit herself, often incorporating various influences to create a unique sound.
She describes her music as melodic, uplifting, and relatable, with a heavy focus on rhythms that resonate with her listeners.
The Art of the Craft
Authenticity is central to Myron’s work, which is why she writes her own lyrics. This allows her to express her personal experiences and creativity in a genuine way.
Her creative process usually begins with instrumentals, followed by developing ideas and writing, before finally heading into the recording booth.
Her inspiration is drawn from the world around her, including everyday experiences, relationships, faith, and the stories of others. She is currently working on new projects and collaborations aimed at showcasing her growth and introducing fresh sounds to her audience.
