Nayia Ntutu, the widow of the late Emurua Dikirr MP Johana Ngeno, joined family members, leaders and residents during the official opening of a newly built house for the mother of the late Kenya Forest Service (KFS) officer Amos Rotich.
Rotich was among the six people who lost their lives in a helicopter crash in Mosop, Nandi County, on 28 February 2026. The crash also claimed the life of MP Johana Ngeno and four others. Investigations into the accident were launched following the tragedy.
The house project was completed months after Belgut MP Nelson Koech pledged to support the family following Rotich's death.
Promise Fulfilled
During memorial events held after the crash, Rotich's mother had emotionally revealed that her son was the family's sole breadwinner. Her remarks touched many Kenyans, prompting calls for support. Belgut MP Nelson Koech later promised to construct a permanent house for the family. Four months later, the pledge was fulfilled.
The handover ceremony attracted relatives, local leaders and friends who gathered to celebrate the milestone.
Nayia Pays Tribute to Victims
Nayia's presence at the ceremony drew attention from mourners who remembered the bond shared by the families of those who died in the crash.
The widow has remained involved in activities honouring the memories of the victims since the February tragedy.
Nayia was among those present and later shared photos and videos from the event on social media.
"It was a deeply moving occasion to stand with the family and honour his memory as we celebrated this important milestone. He tragically lost his life alongside my husband while serving as part of his security detail in the helicopter crash," she wrote.
The event also served as a reminder of the lives lost and the families left behind.
Rotich, who worked with the Kenya Forest Service, was widely remembered as a dedicated officer and a dependable son.
