A free-to-air channel has done what hundreds of pay-TV competitors have not: cracked Kenya's Top 10 most-watched television stations in under 12 months.

Zee Dunia, the drama channel backed by continental media operator Zee Entertainment Africa, grew its daily audience by 91% in four months, from 95,664 viewers in December 2025 to over 200,000 by March 2026, according to third-party data from the Ipsos Kenya Audience Tracker (IKAT).

This is not a startup finding its feet. Zee Entertainment Africa operates across 52 countries, reaches 176 million viewers daily on the continent, and holds the number one television position in Nigeria and Zambia. Kenya is not an experiment. It is the latest market in a proven continental playbook, now delivering measurable results.

The average Zee Dunia viewer watches 152 minutes every single day. That is two and a half hours of voluntary, daily engagement with a channel that did not exist in Kenya just over a year ago.

How Zee Dunia Broke Into Kenya's Top 10 TV Stations in Less Than a Year

For context, that figure climbed from 109 minutes in December 2025, meaning audiences are not just growing in number, they are staying longer each month.

Nine serialised daily drama series, including Marafiki Milele (7pm), Maisha Yangu Mdundo Wangu (8pm) and Jodha & Akbar (9pm), have generated 80+ organic fan communities across social media, with viewers debating plot twists and calling endings in real time.

Zee Dunia broadcasts free via PANG and Signet across 41 distribution sites nationally and streams live on YouTube. No decoder, no subscription, no barrier.

Zee Dunia Joins Kenya's Top 10 Most-Watched TV Stations

Its fastest-growing audience segment is Gen Z and millennials aged 15–34, the demographic that pay-TV has historically struggled to retain as streaming fragmented viewing habits. Women aged 25–34 are a core stronghold, with strong viewership across the country with Nairobi, the Lake region, Central Kenya and Upper Eastern leading in viewership.

Combined with its sibling channel Zee World, the Zee network now ranks 7th in Kenya by combined weekly reach. Ipsos has named it the fastest-growing television network in the country. Critically, the two channels draw entirely distinct audiences meaning the network's reach is additive, not recycled.

Additional programming investment is confirmed for Q2 2026. For a channel that reached Top 10 without charging viewers a single shilling, the trajectory has one direction.
