Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has expressed optimism over the completion of the Modogashe-Samatar road, saying the project will enhance connectivity and accelerate development across northern Kenya.
Speaking during the Madaraka Day celebrations in Wajir County on Monday, Kindiki praised President William Ruto's administration for advancing inclusivity through equitable distribution of development projects across the country.
He said the government had prioritised infrastructure projects in historically marginalised regions as part of efforts to integrate them into the national economy.
"We are looking forward to the completion of the road connecting Mandera to Rhamu, Elwak, Kobo, Kotulo, Tarbaj, Wajir, Samatar, Modogashe, Garbatulla, Kulamawe and Isiolo," Kindiki said.
The Deputy President noted that the road corridor would improve the movement of people and goods while opening up economic opportunities for communities in the region.
He said the project demonstrates the government's commitment to ensuring all parts of the country benefit from national development programmes.
Kindiki also lauded the government for expanding access to electricity in northern Kenya through investment in power infrastructure.
He cited the commissioning of the Habaswein power plant in Wajir County and similar projects in Elwak, Wajir and other towns as milestones in connecting the region to reliable energy.
"Just yesterday, you opened the power plant in Habaswein. Similar power projects have been undertaken in Elwak and other parts of this region," he said.
According to Kindiki, the investments are helping bring communities in northern Kenya into the national electricity grid and supporting economic growth.
He said access to power would spur business activity, improve service delivery and enhance the quality of life for residents.
The Deputy President further commended Ruto for advancing policies aimed at promoting equality and national cohesion.
He said the administration had taken significant steps to ensure all Kenyans enjoy equal access to government services and development opportunities regardless of their location.
The remarks came during the 63rd Madaraka Day celebrations held in Wajir County, where President William Ruto also highlighted government investments in infrastructure, education, water and energy projects aimed at transforming northern Kenya.
