Kikuyu gospel singer Grace Mwai has announced the end of her marriage to media personality and fellow gospel artiste Hiram Maina, popularly known as Kamuhunjia.
The singer shared the news in an emotional Facebook post, stating that the decision followed a period of "much reflection and mutual understanding".
The couple, who married in 2022, had been prominent figures in the Kenyan gospel music scene.
“After much reflection and mutual understanding, I would like to share that my MARRIAGE ENDED and have since been navigating our lives independently,” she posted.
Despite the separation, she emphasised that the transition has been handled with respect and maturity.
A Mutual Parting
In her statement, Mwai expressed gratitude for the time she and Maina shared together. She noted that while their paths are now diverging, there is no ill will between them.
"We remain grateful for the journey we shared, grateful for the love and support you have showed us and wish each other peace and happiness moving forward," she wrote.
The announcement comes just two years after their highly publicised wedding. While the news has surprised many fans, Mwai clarified that the move was a result of careful consideration by both parties.
"Some journeys unfold differently than we expect, yet God's grace continues to sustain us."
Faith Amidst Transition
Despite the personal loss, Mwai was firm in her religious convictions. She told her followers that her belief in the "sanctity of marriage" and her faith in Jesus Christ remain "unchanged". She continues to uphold the biblical value of marriage and God’s purpose for it, even as she faces this difficult chapter.
Mwai described the current period as a season of "loss and sorrow" but expressed confidence in her spiritual path. She stated that her commitment to her ministry and serving "His people" remains steadfast.
"I trust that God is able to bring healing, restoration, and purpose even through life's most difficult chapters."
A Call for Compassion
The singer used her platform to ask for grace from the public and her fans. She acknowledged that some might find the news difficult to process or might be unable to "walk this road" with her. However, she requested that the community extend the same "compassion and dignity" that her faith calls for.
"To those who choose understanding over judgment, thank you," she added, highlighting her desire for a respectful environment as she moves forward.
Mwai concluded her message by thanking her supporters for their ongoing kindness and prayers. She noted that while some journeys are "hard to take," she remains focused on "serving God with faith and purpose" in this new season.
