Police in Kasarani are investigating a disturbing incident in which gospel artiste Rachel Wandeto sustained severe burn injuries after she was allegedly attacked by unknown assailants in the Mwiki area.
Wandeto, who previously drew public attention after tattooing William Ruto’s face on her shoulder and chest alongside the phrase “Tutam” (Two Terms), was reportedly attacked on Friday night by three masked men.
Attack Happened Along Obama Road
According to police reports, the incident occurred along Obama Road, 11th Street in Mwiki shortly after midnight.
Authorities said members of the public alerted officers after the victim was rushed to Uzima Uhai Hospital for emergency treatment.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the attackers allegedly poured a flammable substance believed to be petrol on her body before setting her ablaze and fleeing the scene.
Police said the singer suffered approximately 70 per cent burns affecting her face, arms, legs, torso and other parts of her body.
Due to the severity of her injuries, she was later transferred to Kenyatta National Hospital for specialised treatment.
Family Says She Urgently Needs Blood Donation
Following the attack, family members and supporters have appealed to the public to help donate blood for Wandeto as she continues receiving treatment.
According to those close to the singer, her condition remains critical due to the extensive burn injuries she sustained during the attack.
Appeals for blood donation have since circulated online, with well-wishers urging Kenyans to support her recovery efforts at Kenyatta National Hospital.
Relatives Claim Attackers Demanded Money
Family members alleged that the attackers demanded money or benefits they believed Wandeto had received because of her public support for President Ruto.
According to relatives, the assailants questioned her about alleged financial rewards linked to her political stance before the confrontation escalated.
When she reportedly told them she had nothing, they allegedly attacked her and set her on fire before escaping.
The motive behind the attack has not yet been officially established, and investigators are continuing to piece together the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Wandeto Previously Went Viral Over Tattoo
Earlier in 2026, Wandeto became widely known online after tattooing President Ruto’s face on her body together with political messages associated with support for his leadership.
The tattoos sparked widespread debate on social media and reportedly caused tension within parts of her family, with claims emerging that she had faced disagreements with relatives over political differences.
Police Launch Investigations
Photos showing the extent of Wandeto’s injuries have circulated widely online, drawing condemnation and calls for justice from members of the public and fellow entertainers, including gospel musician Karangu Muraya.
Nairobi police commander Issa Mohamud confirmed that investigations are ongoing and said detectives are pursuing those responsible.
“There is a team pursuing the matter for justice,” he stated.
As of the latest updates, no arrests had been publicly announced. Authorities have urged anyone with information that may assist investigations to report to the police.
