A suspected gang revenge mission turned deadly in Nakuru on Sunday night after a 25-year-old man was stabbed to death in a violent attack that sent traders and residents fleeing for safety.
Police said Kevin Wambobwa was killed at the Posta Mauki area within Rhonda after a group of about 12 young men riding on six motorcycles stormed a busy stage at around 9 pm.
The attackers, identified by residents as members of the notorious “TZ Group”, reportedly descended on the area armed and aggressive, forcing kiosk operators and traders to abandon their businesses and run.
Amid the chaos, Wambobwa is said to have fallen as he tried to escape before the gang cornered and stabbed him several times in the abdomen and forehead.
He was rescued by a colleague and rushed to Nakuru Level Five Hospital, but was pronounced dead on arrival.
Detectives suspect the killing may have been a revenge attack linked to an earlier confrontation during a funeral harambee in the same neighbourhood hours earlier.
Police said a woman was reportedly injured in that incident by suspected members of another gang known as “Mauki”.
Investigators claim the Mauki gang is allegedly led by a man identified only as Michael, who is said to be out on bond in a robbery with violence case currently before the court.
Police visited the crime scene and moved the body to the mortuary pending postmortem examination as investigations into the murder and rising gang activity continue.
The latest killing has once again exposed growing fears over criminal gangs in Nakuru, where authorities say organised youth groups are increasingly becoming a threat to public safety.
Police headquarters said special squads have been deployed across affected areas to pursue gang members and contain the escalating violence.
Meanwhile, detectives in Kisii are handling another disturbing case after four suspects linked to a brutal carjacking and gang rape incident were positively identified by victims during an identification parade.
Police said the ordeal began along Mocheche Avenue in Kisii Town when a young man and his girlfriend were attacked inside their car by six armed men.
The gang reportedly forced their way into the vehicle before driving the couple to a secluded thicket in Bobaracho, where they robbed them of Sh34,000 and other valuables.
Investigators said the attackers blindfolded the victims and locked them in the car boot before driving around for hours.
The boyfriend was later abandoned in the Mabundu area in Nyamira County while the gang allegedly drove away with the woman before gang-raping her and later dumping her.
The four suspects were later intercepted with a homemade firearm and crude weapons before being positively identified during an identification parade at Kisii Police Station.
Police said investigations are ongoing as detectives intensify efforts to curb the rise in violent crime in the region
