Two police officers were arrested on Friday following a shooting incident at a nightclub in Eldoret, Uasin Gishu county.
The incident occurred at Baniyas Night Club after one of the officers allegedly fired a shot during a confrontation with staff.
Police said the officers were later released on bond to allow them to seek medical attention following injuries sustained during the fracas, pending further investigations.
According to police, the altercation began after the two men entered the entertainment joint at around 12.30pm, ordered food and alcoholic drinks and remained at the premises until about 9pm, when a dispute broke out with a waiter.
The club manager told police the disagreement escalated into violence, with one of the men allegedly drawing a pistol and firing a round inside the establishment.
Bouncers at the nightclub reportedly intervened swiftly, disarming the suspect before alerting police.
Officers who responded to the scene arrested the two men.
A Ceska pistol loaded with 14 bullet was recovered from the nightclub staff, while one spent cartridge was also collected from the scene.
Police further said a search of the suspects led to the recovery of Sh673,000 in cash, €5, $15 and 10 Polish zloty.
The suspects sustained minor facial injuries after allegedly being assaulted by members of the public during the incident.
They were detained at Eldoret police station as investigations continue, alongside internal disciplinary action by the Kenya Police Service.
In a separate incident, police in Nyeri South subcounty are investigating the death of a 62-year-old woodcutter who was killed after being struck by a falling bluegum log.
According to police, the incident occurred on Friday afternoon at 3pm in Munyange West location.
The victim, identified as Naftali Maina Nderitu, was cutting bluegum trees when the accident occurred.
Investigators said he was cutting an elevated trunk into logs when it reportedly bounced back and struck him on the back before trapping him underneath.
A witness said efforts to rescue him were unsuccessful and he died on the spot because of the impact and weight of the log.
Police processed the scene and moved the body to Mwai Kibaki hospital mortuary.
