ODM boss Oburu Oginga/FILE

Siaya Senator Oburu Odinga has dismissed rumours about his health and alleged disappearance, insisting that he remains active in politics and fully engaged in party affairs.

‎Speaking amid growing speculation over his recent low profile, the veteran politician said he had neither been abducted nor taken ill, adding that he had been busy helping steer ODM activities behind the scenes.

‎“I was not abducted. I’m not sick,” Oburu said firmly, seeking to put to rest claims that had circulated on social media in recent days.

‎The senator explained that his absence from the public limelight was largely due to his involvement in internal party coordination and consultations aimed at strengthening the Orange Democratic Movement.

‎“I was also busy giving directions here and there to our party, because our party was not upset,” he said.

‎Oburu maintained that ODM remains stable and operational despite political challenges facing opposition parties across the country.

He emphasised that the party’s structures are strong enough to function effectively even when individual leaders are not constantly visible in public.

‎“Our party is present, and it is present fully. It is doing its activities as normal because we are a structured party,” he said.

‎The senator noted that ODM’s strength lies in collective leadership rather than dependence on a single individual, saying the party continues to run smoothly through established organs and officials.

‎“We don’t depend on one person; we depend on the whole structure, and as long as it is functioning, things are working normally,” Oburu stated.

‎He further revealed that his role often involves stepping in quietly to resolve emerging political issues and ensure the party remains united and focused on its agenda.

‎“Because something went wrong, then I come in very fast to negotiate and correct and move on,” he said.

‎Oburu, a long-serving politician and elder brother to former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, remains one of ODM’s key strategists and influential voices within the opposition outfit.

‎The senator urged party supporters to ignore misinformation and remain confident in the party’s leadership and structures, saying ODM remains focused on serving Kenyans and advancing its political agenda.
