Elderly woman found murdered in her kitchen in Magombo, Nyamira County

Detectives are investigating murder in an incident where the body of a woman was found in her kitchen in Magombo, Nyamira County.

Police said the discovery was made on Tuesday May 5 evening and identified the woman as Hellen Ombego, 79.

Her body was discovered lying on the floor long after she had died, police said adding it had bruises on the neck and knee.

The motive of the murder was not immediately known and the body was moved to the mortuary for autopsy.

It was among five cases that police are investigating.

Elsewhere in Lessos, Trans Nzoia County, a decomposed body of a woman was found in a forest.

The body was discovered by forestry officials who were on patrols in the area.

Police were informed of the incident and moved the body to the mortuary for autopsy.

And in Lungalunga, Kwale County, 77-year-old man identified as Kesi Gwede was found dead on a farm after suspected murder.

Police said the deceased was shot by arrows from the back by an assailant who escaped.

Two arrows were found lodged in the stomach and kidney and the motive of the murder was not immediately known.

The body was moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy.

Police said they were pursuing leads into the murder.

In Kizingo, Malindi, Kilifi County, an unknown body was found lying on the roadside long after his murder.

Police said the body had two deep cuts in the head and fractures on the left hand and right hand.

The body was moved to the mortuary pending identification and autopsy.

And police in Kisumu arrested a suspect and recovered five rounds of ammunition, a panga, a dagger, a teargas canister, a pistol holster and three national identification cards from him in the war on crime.

Police said they are investigating his activities at large to know more. And a woman was found murdered and her body dumped in a river in Chuka area, Tharaka Nithi County.

The body was naked when it was discovered on Ruguti river on May 5. Police said the woman’s head had a deep cut. It is suspected the woman was killed elsewhere and the body dumped at the scene.

The motive was not known. Locals failed to identify the body indicating the woman’s body was ferried from elsewhere and dumped there.

Police moved the body to the mortuary pending an autopsy and other procedures.

Meanwhile, six workers were injured when a fire broke out at a restaurant in Siala, Siaya County.

A worker was fixing a burner to a new gas cylinder in the kitchen at a café at Rera Shopping Centre when the fire broke out.

The gas cylinder exploded causing the fire, police said adding six workers who were in the kitchen were injured.

They were all admitted at local hospitals with burns amid investigations.

And a police officer was rushed to the hospital after a snake bite in Garissa Town.

The constable of police was on sentry duties on May 5 when he was bitten by the snake in the leg. The officer attached to the QRU Kamuthe Special operations was later rushed to hospital and admitted there for medical attention.

Such incidents are common in the area amid campaigns to address them.
