Crime sceneA cloud of mystery hangs over the death of a Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) soldier whose body was discovered inside her locked house in Juja, Kiambu County.
The 44-year-old soldier, identified as Elizabeth Wanjiru and attached to the Department of Defence headquarters, was found lifeless after relatives broke into her house when she failed to respond to calls.
Her body was lying on a sofa in a pool of blood, with visible signs of electrocution on the face. The door had been locked from the inside, leaving investigators piecing together what may have happened.
Police and military officers have since launched a joint probe into the incident. The body was moved to Defence Forces Memorial Hospital Mashujaa Funeral Home, pending a postmortem.
In a separate incident in Muhoroni, Kisumu County, a 29-year-old woman, Sylivia Atieno, was stabbed to death during a fight.
She sustained a stab wound to the neck and was rushed to a local hospital, where she was pronounced dead on arrival. The attacker was beaten by a mob before police intervened and rescued her.
The suspect is currently admitted to hospital under police guard and is expected to be grilled before being arraigned on murder charges. Police say the cause of the fatal altercation remains unclear.
Authorities have raised concern over rising cases of domestic fights turning deadly, with many incidents still under investigation.
Meanwhile, in Sagana, Kirinyaga County, police are probing the killing of a 77-year-old woman, Margret Wambui Nyoike, whose body was found inside her house.
The door to her home was wide open, and her body lay on the floor with signs suggesting she had been strangled. A scarf was tightly tied around her neck, and a footprint was visible on her chest.
Police said the elderly woman lived alone, and her family members are yet to be traced.
Her body was moved to the mortuary as investigations continue into the murder.
