88-year-old man killed, wife hospitalised after suspected land dispute attack in Bungoma County

Detectives in Bungoma North Sub-County are investigating a murder incident in which an 88-year-old man died and his wife was seriously injured following an alleged attack linked to a long-standing land dispute in Nasianda Village.

According to the police, the incident occurred at an unknown time during the night of May 4, 2026.

Police said the victims, identified as Jotham Makhokha, 88, and his wife aged 76, were allegedly attacked by their neighbours at their homestead in Nasianda village.

Both victims were initially rushed to a clinic, where they were treated in critical condition.

However, Makhokha succumbed to his injuries at around 10:45 a.m. while undergoing treatment.

Police officers visited and documented the scene, where preliminary findings indicated that the attack may have been fuelled by a long-standing land dispute between the two families.

The body of the deceased was moved to Naitiri mortuary awaiting post-mortem examination, while his injured wife was referred to Kitale Level 4 Hospital for specialised treatment.

Police have launched investigations into the incident as efforts continue to trace the suspects.

Elsewhere, police in Kilifi North Sub-County are investigating the murder of a seven-year-old girl whose body was found dumped along a murram feeder road in Mweza Ng’ombe area.

Members of the public discovered the body lying beside the road.

Police established that the victim was a Grade Two pupil at Kilifi Little Angels Academy.

The body was found naked and bore visible injuries on the right side of the face as well as bruises on both hands.

Investigators further noted that a missing child report had been filed the previous night at Kilifi Police Station.

The family had also been requested to provide a photograph of the child to aid circulation.

The scene was processed and documented by CSI officers as investigations commenced into the circumstances surrounding the killing, police said.

The body was later moved to Kilifi County Referral Hospital mortuary, where it awaits post-mortem examination.

Police have launched a manhunt for those responsible and urged members of the public with any information to assist in the ongoing investigations.

And police in Mathioya Sub-County, Murang’a County, are investigating a suspected drowning incident after the body of a 58-year-old man was found floating in Mathioya River.

According to the police, the incident was reported on Monday at around 4:15 p.m. by members of the public who had spotted the body while crossing the river.

Police visited the scene and established that the deceased, identified as Francis Mwangi Maina, had been reported missing since Friday, May 1, 2026.

Police said Maina had left his home at around 9:00 a.m. to travel to Kangema town on personal errands but failed to return, prompting concern among family members.

His body was retrieved from the river and moved to Kangema Hospital Mortuary, where it is being preserved pending a post-mortem examination.

Authorities have launched investigations to determine the circumstances surrounding his death.
