Last month, stakeholders convened at Safari Park Hotel for the launch of the National Pig Value Chain Stakeholder Sensitisation Forum and the subsequent Pork Pawa Campaign.

The forum, themed “The Role of Pork in Nutrition and Sustainable Meat Value Chains,” was held in collaboration with the State Department for Livestock Development under the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development.

Building on this launch, the engagement continued on Wednesday in Murang’a county at Nokras Riverine Hotel & Spa, bringing together national and county government representatives, industry stakeholders, and farmers to advance implementation of the national pig value chain agenda.

The initiative is aligned to the National Pig Strategy 2026–2030, which provides a structured framework to strengthen public–private collaboration, improve sector coordination, and accelerate transformation across the pig value chain.

A key focus of the engagement is increasing pork consumption from the current 0.4kg per capita to 0.8kg per capita, in line with global nutritional recommendations, while unlocking market opportunities for farmers, improving nutrition outcomes, and strengthening the overall value chain.

The discussions emphasised the importance of aligning national and county efforts to empower farmers, enhance extension services, and deepen adoption of best practices across the sector, driving food security, sustainable livelihoods, and inclusive economic growth.

As part of the rollout, Farmer’s Choice will continue to undertake county sensitisation forums aimed at engaging stakeholders at the grassroots level, strengthening extension services, and expanding awareness and participation in the pig value chain across the nation.
