Students at Njiiri School were left elated after President William Ruto announced a Sh1 million donation to improve their meals and pledged to deliver a new school bus within a month.
Speaking during a visit to the institution, the President responded to students’ concerns about their diet, assuring them of immediate intervention.
The announcement was met with excitement from the students, who have been pushing for improvements in their welfare, particularly meals.
“Boys, you want to change the diet. How do you want us to change it? You want me to plan something. I will talk with your teacher about that. I’m giving you Sh1 million to change their diet,” he said.
In addition to the cash support, President Ruto committed to sourcing a new school bus, saying he would work with partners to ensure the promise is fulfilled within weeks.
“You have said that you want a good bus. I have a few friends here, and we shall plan. Within the next month, you will have a new bus for the boys. We have finished and agreed on that,” he said.
The President revealed that the government has lined up about Sh300 million in development projects for the school, aimed at upgrading infrastructure and expanding learning opportunities.
He noted that the planned improvements are expected to boost enrolment and enhance the overall learning environment.
“We want to change the face of Njiiri High School. Next year, we anticipate an increase in the number of students as we improve the learning infrastructure in the school and give more opportunities to our learners,” he added.
Ruto announced a series of infrastructure projects at Njiiri High School in Murang’a County, aimed at expanding capacity and improving learning conditions.
The President cited its long-standing academic reputation as the basis for increased government investment.
“This school has a great history, and because of that, we want many more children in Kenya, especially in Murang’a, to benefit from it,” he said.
Top on the list of projects is the construction of 30 additional classrooms and six new laboratories to support growing student numbers and enhance academic delivery.
The President also pledged funding for the construction of a new administration block, saying the money will be channelled through the Ministry of Education to facilitate the project, which he noted is valued at several million shillings.
In addition, the government will construct a new dormitory at the school at an estimated cost of Sh100 million. The facility, to be implemented by the State Department for Housing under Cabinet Secretary Alice Wahome, is expected to accommodate up to 1,000 students.
