June 30 remains the deadline for filing tax returns for the previous year
The Kenya Revenue Authority has said the window for clearance of any individual or corporate tax arrears closes on Thursday, April 30, after which the outstanding tax will attract penalties and interest.
While June 30 remains the deadline for filing tax returns for the previous year, April 30 is the cut-off for settling any outstanding tax balance for the period under review.
The taxman said companies are required to pay all taxes in four equal instalments, based on the company’s estimated tax liability.
The payments are due on or before the 20th day of the 4th, 6th, 9th and 12th months of the accounting period.
“If your company has last year’s tax balance, the clearance deadline is April 30,” KRA said.
Individual taxpayers are required to clear their outstanding tax balances in a lump sum, except those with tax liabilities exceeding Sh40,000 per year, who are also allowed to pay instalment tax.
All payments should be made through the single official government paybill number 222 222.
“Please make sure you do not make the costly mistake of paying the right amount of money to the wrong receiver. 222 222 is our official paybill number,” KRA said.
To ease the process, KRA has outlined five simple steps to pay any outstanding tax balance.
