Leaders from Western Kenya have been urged to reconsider their political alignment with the Kenya Kwanza government and rally behind what is emerging as an alternative leadership bloc ahead of next year's polls.

Bumula MP Jack Wamboka said a section of young, like-minded leaders from the region is backing Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna as a potential presidential contender in future elections.

The legislator pointed to leaders such as Senator Edwin Sifuna, Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya and Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi as part of a growing political movement critical of the current administration.

Wamboka spoke on Monday when he handed over tents and chairs worth Sh4 million to women’s groups at Kisawayi Primary School.

The groups received 17 tents and 1,700 plastic chairs aimed at boosting grassroots economic empowerment.

Senator Edwin Sifuna, Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya and Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi held a breakfast meeting in Nairobi on Tuesday, although the agenda of the talks was not made public.

Separately, Cooperatives Cabinet Secretary Wycliffe Oparanya held a consultative meeting with the Western Kenya parliamentary caucus in Nairobi, where leaders deliberated on the region’s political direction.

Sources said the discussions focused on unity, strategic positioning and safeguarding the community’s interests ahead of the 2027 general election.

Wamboka also said the continued rise in fuel prices has worsened the cost of living and strained households.

He maintained that national policy issues such as fuel pricing must be urgently addressed to ease economic pressure on Kenyans.
