President William Ruto launches a Sh700 million rehabilitation and expansion of the Kisii water supply network on April 14, 2026/PCS

President William Ruto on Tuesday launched a Sh700 million rehabilitation and expansion of the Kisii water supply network, highlighting it as a key project in a broader development push across the Gusii region.

The project, unveiled during his ongoing tour of Kisii County, will be complemented by an additional Sh350 million investment to solarise an 80-kilometre water pipeline, a move aimed at reducing operational costs and ensuring affordable water for residents.

Ruto said the initiative is part of the government’s broader strategy to improve access to essential services while lowering the cost of living.

“Our nation’s transformation will only be realised through the effective implementation of development programmes and projects,” he said.

“We reject any attempts to derail our focus by those advancing tribal and divisive politics.”

The water project formed the centrepiece of a series of launches and inspections undertaken by the President across the county, underscoring the government’s focus on infrastructure, health and trade.

Earlier in the day, Ruto launched the construction of 50 kilometres of roads in Nyaribari Chache Constituency, covering key routes including Nyabisabo-Kegati, Nyaguta-Amariba, Nyaguta-Riariga, Omosasa-Geserere and Keumbu-Ibeno.

The President said the road projects are expected to ease the movement of people and goods, while unlocking the region’s agricultural potential.

“These roads will open up the county, ease the movement of people and goods to markets, and unlock agricultural potential,” he said.

He added that the government has allocated funds for the construction of an additional 220 kilometres of new roads in Kisii County, on top of 280 kilometres of ongoing works.

President William Ruto lays the foundation stone for student hostels at Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) Nyamache campus on April 14, 2026/PCS

In the health sector, the President laid the foundation stone for student hostels at Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) Nyamache campus, noting that the expansion will allow the institution to admit more students and introduce additional courses.

“When the infrastructure is ready, more courses will be taught at the college and enable the training of more professionals in the region to strengthen our universal health programme,” he said.

Ruto also announced the allocation of Sh100 million for the upgrade of Nyamache Sub-County Referral Hospital, alongside Sh20 million for the construction of 10 additional classrooms and two laboratories at the KMTC.

The President further inspected the Sh75 million Mogonga Market in Bomachoge Borabu Constituency, which is expected to provide a conducive working environment for at least 200 traders.

In Nyaribari Masaba, he commissioned the Sh55 million Masimba Modern Market, which will accommodate up to 300 traders and is equipped with facilities such as cold storage.

“This is the true meaning of bottom up. The traders have been conducting their activities in open air, exposed to rain, scorching sun, mud and dust,” Ruto said.

“We are honouring our promise to give Mama Mboga and other traders decent places of work, one market after another.”

The President said the projects reflect the government’s commitment to delivering on its manifesto and improving livelihoods through targeted investments.

“For the past three years, we have demonstrated that our word is our bond,” he said.

“Across every corner of our nation, we are turning commitment into action and translating our promises into tangible results that uplift the lives of our people.”

Ruto maintained that leadership should be judged on delivery rather than rhetoric, as the government continues to roll out development projects across the country.
