The Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) has appointed Moses Wekesa as its new Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, following what the board described as a rigorous and competitive recruitment process aimed at identifying a leader to steer the agency’s long-term aviation transformation agenda
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the board said Wekesa emerged as the preferred candidate.
"The KAA Board has appointed Mr Moses Wekesa as Managing Director/CEO following a competitive process. He will lead KAA’s transformation agenda, including the modernisation and expansion of Jomo Kenyatta International Airport," KAA stated.
The board noted that Wekesa brings with him extensive experience in managing high-impact projects across multiple regions, including Europe, Asia, the Pacific and Africa, positioning him to lead the growth and development of Kenya’s aviation infrastructure.
Before his appointment, Wekesa served as Business Development Director at Kenya Electricity Generating Company, where he spearheaded the company’s core business growth initiatives.
The board said his expertise in infrastructure development and project management equips him with the necessary skills to advance KAA’s strategic objectives, particularly in modernising airport facilities and enhancing operational efficiency.
Wekesa holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology, a Master of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering (Applied Mechanics) from the University of Nairobi, and postgraduate qualifications in Finance, Appraisal, and Project Planning from the University of Bradford.
The board expressed confidence in his leadership, stating that his appointment comes at a critical time as the authority implements key projects to strengthen the aviation sector.
At the same time, the board conveyed its appreciation to KAA General Manager Finance, Dr Mohamud Gedi, for his service as Acting Managing Director.
It noted that his leadership ensured a smooth transition period as the authority continues to roll out its development programmes.
“The Board extends its best wishes to Mr Wekesa in this new assignment and expresses its appreciation to Dr Mohamud Gedi for his dedicated service as Acting Managing Director,” the statement said.
The board also acknowledged the seamless transition within the authority.
