Deputy President Kithure Kindiki/DCPS

Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has urged political leaders to show respect to bereaved families, following incidents witnessed during the requiem mass of the late Ol Kalou MP David Kiaraho.

Speaking on Friday at the burial ceremony in Tigoni, Kiambu County, Kindiki apologised for the conduct of a section of leaders during the send-off held last Wednesday, March 8.

He said the remarks and actions observed fell short of the expectations of mourners and the wider community.

“I apologise on behalf of the political leaders who, through their utterances, actions and behaviours, put into disrepute the sending-off ceremony of Hon. Kiaraho. On their behalf, I apologise for anything that was done that might have hurt the family, his friends and the people of Ol Kalou,” he said.

Kindiki described the late lawmaker as “an honourable, disciplined and organised man”, noting it would be unfortunate to lower his dignity in death.

“As the people of Mt. Kenya, it is not our culture to misbehave during funerals and private events,” he stated.

He called on all leaders to be mindful of the relatives, friends and mourners when given an opportunity to offer their condolences.

“I hope what happened in Ol Kalou will not be repeated in Mt. Kenya and everywhere in the country,” he noted.
