The end of an era is here—but it’s also the beginning of something bigger. As Showmax prepares to shut down, its iconic Originals are not disappearing—they’re evolving, with a new home on DStv Stream.
Eligible Showmax subscribers will receive trial access to DStv Stream Compact for a limited period, as part of the move to a single streaming home on DStv Stream.
This move brings Showmax Originals together with live TV, sport and a broader range of entertainment in one app. After the trial period, qualifying customers can continue on DStv Stream Compact at a special price of KES550 per month for 12 months, provided the subscription remains active throughout and payments are up to date.
“Showmax helped unlock a wave of world-class African storytelling,” says Nzola Miranda, Managing Director, MultiChoice Kenya. “Series like Single Kiasi, Real Housewives of Nairobi, Reckless, and The Mommy Club NBO, along with productions from across the continent, were created through collaboration between MultiChoice’s content teams and local producers. That commitment to African storytelling does not change.”
The special offer gives Showmax customers access to a significantly expanded content experience, including international series and movies, kids’ content and live sport via SuperSport, available on mobile devices and smart TVs. DStv Stream also includes features such as Watch From Start, offline downloads and data management tools.
“Our priority is to ensure customers continue to have a home for the stories they love. By bringing thousands of hours of Showmax Originals and a deeper on-demand library into DStv Stream, we are creating a more holistic experience where live sport, news, the best international content, and award-winning local drama live together.” added Mr. Miranda.
DStv Compact, Compact Plus and Premium customers will benefit from access to Showmax content on DStv Stream at no additional cost.
How the trial access works
Eligible Showmax subscribers will receive trial access to DStv Stream Compact until the end of May. The offer and details on how to take up the offer will be communicated directly via the email address linked to their Showmax account.
After the trial period, customers can continue on DStv Stream Compact at KES 550 per month for 12 months, provided payments remain up to date.
The offer applies to qualifying customers, including Showmax subscribers who do not have an active DStv subscription and who subscribe directly to Showmax. It excludes existing DStv customers who already receive Showmax content as part of their package or who add Showmax to their DStv bill.

Standard pricing for DStv Stream Compact is from KES 4200 per month
Showmax subscriptions will not migrate automatically. Customers who wish to continue watching will need to follow the simple sign-up process for DStv Stream shared via email and create a new profile, all of which takes less than five minutes.
Customers who choose not to move to DStv Stream may request a refund for any unused portion of their Showmax subscription, subject to standard terms and conditions. Autopayments to Showmax will stop automatically once the service is discontinued.
The Showmax platform will be discontinued on 30 April 2026, with Showmax Originals continuing on DStv Stream.
What to watch on DStv Stream
The dedicated Showmax section on DStv Stream will feature standout titles, including the 2026 Kalasha-nominated Big Girl Small World, Subterranea, Single Kiasi, The Chocolate Empire, Mizani, and Adam to Eve, alongside popular series from across the continent such as Adulting. International content on demand includes various Real Housewives series, Starfleet Academy, The Burbs, and The Fall and Rise of Reggie Dinkins.
This sits alongside everything else available on DStv Compact or DStv Premium, including tens of thousands of hours of on‑demand movies and series and more than 100 live channels available to stream 24/7.
For customers, it delivers the best of both worlds: popular local originals alongside premium international channels, plus kids’ programming including boxsets of Cocomelon, Blippi and Superstrikas, and world‑class sport, reinforcing DStv as Africa’s most comprehensive entertainment platform.
Sport remains a key part of the experience. Through SuperSport, subscribers can watch competitions such as the Premier League, UEFA Champions League, and LaLiga, as well as additional SuperSport channels. Unlike Showmax Premier League, which was only available on mobile devices, DStv Stream can be viewed on smart TVs as well as mobile devices.
