A bitter domestic dispute over just Sh200 has ended in tragedy, with detectives detaining a 23-year-old man over the death of his elder sister in Kyuso Sub-County, Kitui County.
The incident, which unfolded in the Nyanzai area, Kavaani Location, saw the suspect allegedly turn violent during a quarrel with his 28-year-old sister, Mwende Mawia, at their family home on April 6, police said.
According to investigators, the disagreement escalated into a physical confrontation, during which the suspect reportedly punched Mwende once in the chest. She collapsed moments later and began vomiting, prompting frantic efforts by family members to save her life.
She was rushed to a private health facility at Ngomeni shopping centre but was pronounced dead on arrival.
Police visited the scene and launched investigations into the circumstances surrounding the death. The body has since been moved to Kyuso Level IV Sub-County Hospital mortuary pending a post-mortem examination.
The suspect remains in police custody and is expected to be arraigned in court as investigations continue.
Authorities have urged the public to resolve disputes amicably, warning against the escalation of minor disagreements into violence.
Kisumu murder: Two on the run after woman stabbed
In a separate incident in Kisumu County, police have launched a manhunt for two suspects linked to the fatal stabbing of a 48-year-old woman in Manyatta “B” slum estate.
The victim, identified as Elizabeth Adhiambo Yogo, was allegedly attacked inside her rented house in Border Village by her male companion.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspect had been in a relationship with the deceased since 2018. Police believe the attack may have been triggered by a suspected love triangle involving another man.
Investigators suspect the two men may have jointly been involved in the killing.
Yogo was discovered by her daughter leaning against her bed with severe stab wounds. Neighbours helped rush her to Kisumu County Referral Hospital, where she was pronounced dead on arrival.
Officers who processed the scene recovered a 30-centimetre knife believed to have been used in the attack.
The suspects fled and remain at large, with police intensifying efforts to track them down.
The body has been preserved at the Kisumu County Referral Hospital mortuary as investigations continue, with authorities appealing to the public for information that could lead to the arrest of the suspects.
