Speaking during the funeral in Tigoni, Ian Kiaraho delivered a heartfelt message to the head of state, thanking him for standing by his father for over a decade.
“Dad really loved you. You stood by him from 2013 until the day he rested. We will continue to stand with you and give you support because you have stood with this family. Thank you for that loyalty,” Ian said.
The remarks drew attention from mourners, highlighting the close personal and political ties between the President and the late legislator, who died on March 29 while undergoing treatment.
Beyond politics, Ian painted a deeply personal portrait of his father, describing him as a mentor, disciplinarian, and unwavering pillar of support.
“Yours was a life of remarkable achievement and even greater impact,” he said, noting that Kiaraho valued integrity and service over material wealth.
He recalled lessons instilled through firm guidance in his youth, as well as a strong Christian foundation marked by regular church attendance and a love for hymns such as How Great Thou Art
Ian also pointed to his father’s legacy beyond public service, citing developments including Mirage in Westlands, a greenhouse along Gong Road, and NextGen along the Nairobi Expressway as lasting symbols of his vision.
At a personal level, he described a devoted family man whose influence will live on through his children and grandchildren.
The funeral was attended by President Ruto, Deputy President Kithure Kindiki, and other leaders, as family and friends gathered to celebrate Kiaraho’s life.
Ian concluded by vowing to uphold his father’s legacy, signaling continuity in both values and relationships even in his absence.
Kiaraho died on March 29, 2026, at Nairobi Hospital at the age of 62. Born on October 2, 1963, he was a trained architect and a graduate of the University of Nairobi, where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Architecture.
He entered elective politics during the 2013 General Election, winning the Ol Kalou parliamentary seat on a The National Alliance (TNA) ticket under the Jubilee coalition wave that swept across central Kenya at the time.
He successfully defended his seat in the 2017 General Election after Jubilee transitioned into a unified political party.
