Mitchelle died in a road accident in Taita Taveta County on April 3, 2026.

The service, attended by family, friends and members of the congregation, turned emotional as Ruto spoke publicly about his daughter for the first time since her death.

Holding back tears, he drew comfort from scripture.

“Father, I ask why you are not with me, yet I hold on to God’s promise; the Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit. Psalms 34:18,” he said.

His voice trembled as he paused at intervals, at times looking down and clutching the lectern.

“You are no longer with us physically. Your spirit lives on in every memory, every lesson, every moment of love you gave us,” he said.

“You will forever remain in my thoughts, my heart and my soul. Your laughter, your courage and your love will guide me for the rest of my days. Rest well, my beautiful girl, until we meet again. Thank you.”

At the end of the tribute, he appeared overwhelmed and stepped away from the microphone, wiping away tears as he struggled to compose himself.

He then walked slowly back to his seat, visibly sobbing, before being comforted by close family members.

Mitchelle, born in 2007, was travelling with her family from Mombasa towards Taveta en route to Tanzania for the Easter holiday when the accident occurred.

According to reports, the trailer involved in the crash is said to have been parked on the roadside at the time of the incident.

She died at the scene, while Ruto and other family members sustained injuries and were rushed to hospital.

They were later reported to be in stable condition.

Since the accident, leaders, colleagues in the maritime sector and members of the public have sent condolence messages, expressing solidarity with the family during the period of mourning.

According to family announcements, Mitchelle will be buried on Friday, April 10, 2026, at the family home in Kabarak, Nakuru County.
