A night out in Mombasa ended in tragedy after an unidentified woman collapsed and died shortly after leaving a club in Bamburi.
Police said the woman had spent Saturday night alone at a club in Bamburi, Kisauni Sub-County, drinking before the incident occurred.
According to the club manager, who reported the matter on Sunday, the woman passed out during the night but was later awakened by staff at around 5:00am.
She then walked to the washroom, where she stayed for an unusually long time.
Concerned staff checked on her and found her lying unconscious on the floor.
She was rushed to Ace Northern Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.
Police officers who visited both the club and the hospital said the body showed no visible injuries.
The woman had no identification documents, complicating efforts to establish her identity.
Her body was later moved to the Coast General Hospital mortuary, where it is awaiting identification and a postmortem examination to determine the cause of death.
Authorities said efforts are ongoing to identify the deceased to allow further procedures.
In a separate incident, police in Limuru, Kiambu County, faced difficulties securing a mortuary to receive the body of a man who had been murdered.
The unidentified man’s body was discovered in Limuru town on Sunday morning and initially taken to the Nairobi City Mortuary.
However, attendants declined to admit the body, citing a directive restricting the facility to bodies recovered within Nairobi City County due to limited space and resources.
Police then transported the body to Kiambu County Referral Hospital mortuary, where it was also rejected, with staff saying they could not admit it before relatives were identified.
The body was returned to Limuru Sub-County after the failed attempts.
Following intervention by Kiambu County officials, the body was taken back to Kiambu County Referral Hospital mortuary.
But just as admission procedures were nearing completion, hospital staff reportedly directed that the body be moved again—this time to Tigoni Sub-County Hospital mortuary.
Frustrated by the back-and-forth, police officers abandoned the body at the mortuary without formal admission.
Officials said discussions were ongoing on Tuesday to determine how to handle the situation.
The two incidents have raised fresh concerns over unexplained deaths and logistical challenges in handling bodies, as authorities continue with investigations in both cases.
