A family was left mourning after their three-year-old boy died when he fell from the sixth floor of their apartment in Nairobi’s Eastleigh area.

Police and witnesses said the child was playing with friends when he fell to the ground floor, landing on his head and dying instantly.

He was confirmed dead on arrival at a local hospital on Sunday evening, April 5, leaving his family devastated.

The body was moved to the mortuary pending further procedures.

Such incidents have been on the rise, prompting calls for residential developers to ensure the safety of tenants. Police said most of these tragedies involve children slipping off balconies and falling to their deaths.

In a separate incident in Kanjeria, Kiambu County, a man died after being trapped by a falling tree.

Police said the victim was part of a group hired to fell the tree when the accident occurred on Sunday afternoon. Peter Kahuro, 46, died on the spot after the tree suddenly fell while his colleague was using a power saw.

His body was moved to the mortuary pending further procedures, as police launched an investigation into the tragedy.

Meanwhile, a matatu tout was killed in an attack at a bus stop in Dandora, Nairobi County.

Authorities believe the tout was targeted by two men in a revenge mission. The victim was found with wounds to the head.

Locals identified the assailants, one of whom is a known ex-convict, prompting police to launch a hunt. The motive remains unclear. Efforts to trace and arrest the suspects were ongoing on Monday, and the body was moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy.

Elsewhere, police are investigating the drowning of a woman whose body was found on the banks of River Chania in Thika Town.

The river, swollen by recent rains, likely swept the middle-aged woman downstream. Police moved the body to the mortuary pending identification and autopsy.

More than 115 people have died in rain-related incidents across the country in the past two months. Police said hundreds more have been displaced, amid warnings of further flooding in the coming days.
