The Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) board has appointed Eng Joseph Oketch as acting Director General following the resignation of Daniel Kiptoo.

In a statement, the Authority said its Board received Kiptoo’s resignation on Saturday and thanked him for his dedicated service to the Authority.

"The board yesterday (Saturday) received the resignation of the DG Daniel Kiptoo. The board thanks the former DG for the dedicated service to the authority and wishes him well in his future endeavours," the board chairperson, Adan Haji said.

"Being cognisant of, and in appreciation of the crucial and strategic mandate and functions of the authority, appointed Eng Joseph Oketch as the acting Director General," Haji added.

Oketch currently heads the Electricity and Renewable Energy Directorate at the Authority, where he oversees the formulation, review, and monitoring of regulations, standards, and codes.

He joined the Authority 10 years ago and possesses over 25 years of experience in the energy sector.

Before his tenure at the Authority, he held senior positions at Kenya Power and the Rural Electrification Authority.

He holds a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from the University of Nairobi, an MBA in Strategic Management and a PhD in Strategic Management from Kenyatta University, among other qualifications.

He is also a Member of the Institute of Engineers of Kenya (IEK), the Kenya Institute of Management (KIM) and is a Registered Professional Engineer with the Engineers Board of Kenya (EBK).

The Board expressed confidence in his leadership, stating it remains confident that Oketch shall effectively steer the Authority.

It also assured stakeholders of continuity, saying the Authority remains steady in effectively and sustainably regulating the energy sector.

President William Ruto officially received the resignations of three senior officials in Kenya’s petroleum sector, including that of Kiptoo.

The move follows an ongoing inquiry within the country’s petroleum products supply chain.

In a press notice issued on Saturday, April 4, 2026, the government said it had received the resignation of Kiptoo as part of broader proceedings related to a government‑wide review into the administration of the petroleum products supply chain.
