A GSU officer Nathan Kirwa who is a bodyguard to Governor Jonathan Bii has been arraigned before court in Eldoret over the murder of a nurse at a camp located near the State Lodge in the city.

Chief Magistrate Peter Ndwiga has allowed police to detain the officer for 21 days in order to complete investigations before he is formally charged with murder.
Investigations Officer in the case Edwin Chirchir told the court that he needed the 21 days to record statements from more than 9 witnesses and take sample collected from the scene for examination.
He said the GSU officer was a person of interest in respect to the investigations into the offence Murder contrary to section 203 as read with section 204 of the Penal Code.
The offence was committed on night of 30th August 2026 at around 1730hours at GSU mess compound in Ainabkoi Sub County within Uasin Gishu County, whereby the preliminary investigation done shows that the officer found one Doris Murei in the mess and confronted her over unknown reason.
“The respondent here shot the deceased using a pistol at the back killing her on the spot before escaping using his motor vehicle registration number KAR 371U make Toyota 110 which was later found at the GSU Main gate abandoned”, said Chirchir.
He said a team of Police officers led by county commander Wilberforce Sicharani and scene of crime personnel visited the scene and found a lifeless body of Doris Murei lying facing down wards, with gunshot wounds.
The court heard that upon screening the surrounding, seven spent cartridges were recovered and the body of the deceased was taken to Eldoret Hospital mortuary for preservation pending autopsy.
The GSU officer was later traced and arrested at Kaptinga area along Kapseret-Mail Tisa ByPass Road,
A pistol loaded with rounds of ammunition of 9mm, he was escorted to Naiberi police station with a gunshot wound on the left forefinger.
Chirchir argued that if released on bond the suspect might interfere with some witnesses before the investigation are concluded given their relationship..
“It’s my founding fear that his life also is at risk if released on bond. Investigations are still ongoing and I require more time to finalize investigations.”, he said.
Chirchir said crucial witnesses are yet to record statements, a Postmortem is yet to be done on the body of the deceased, the pistol, magazine, spent cartridges and ammunition recovered were yet to be forwarded for ballistic analysis.
Lawyer George Sonkule for the suspect had urged the court to release the suspect arguing that he was not a flight risk and would not interfere with investigations.
However the prosecution argued that the murder was a serious crime and that the offense was committed within a protected area.
He said the witness in the case were GSU officers same as the suspect hence a highly possibility of attempts to tamper with investigations.
Ndwiga allowed the application by the prosecution noting that the suspect was a flight risk because he was arrested far away from the scene of crime.
He directed that the mater be mentioned on September 21st for further directions.
