The Social Health Authority (SHA) has extended the deadline for healthcare providers to comply with Health Management Information System (HMIS) requirements by one month.
In a notice issued by SHA Chief Executive Officer Dr Mercy Mwangangi, healthcare providers have until September 30, 2026, to complete the required system configuration and compliance processes.
The extension is intended to give facilities additional time to address technical requirements and ensure they are fully compliant with the HMIS requirements.
“Healthcare providers are hereby notified that the deadline for compliance with the Health Management Information System (HMIS) requirements has been extended by one (1) month, to 30 September 2026,” the notice stated.
SHA urged healthcare providers to take advantage of the additional month to complete the necessary preparations ahead of the revised deadline.
“This extension will allow healthcare providers additional time to complete the necessary system configuration and compliance processes,” the notice said.
The extension comes as healthcare facilities continue adjusting their digital systems to meet requirements under Kenya’s evolving health financing and digital health framework.
Providers that encounter technical or system-related difficulties during the compliance process have been directed to seek assistance from the Digital Health Agency (DHA).
The DHA will provide technical support to healthcare providers facing challenges in configuring their systems or completing the compliance process.
“Providers experiencing any technical or system-related challenges during the compliance process are advised to contact the Digital Health Agency's (DHA) Technical Support for assistance and resolution,” SHA said.
The agency will also support facilities that do not currently have the required system.
“In addition, the DHA will offer the necessary support and system to healthcare providers that do not have one,” the notice stated.
The move is expected to assist facilities that may have been unable to meet the original compliance deadline due to technological, system configuration or other implementation challenges.
SHA has urged all healthcare providers to use the extension period to resolve outstanding issues rather than wait until the new deadline approaches.
“All providers are encouraged to use this period to ensure full compliance by the revised deadline,” the authority said.
Healthcare providers seeking assistance or further clarification have been directed to contact the Digital Health Agency through [email protected].
The SHA notice comes as the government continues to strengthen the use of digital systems in healthcare management, with health facilities increasingly required to integrate technology into patient management, reporting and health financing processes.
