Police in Manga Sub-County, Nyamira County, have arrested a 34-year-old man in connection with the murder of his aunt in the early hours of Thursday.

The incident occurred at around 1:00 a.m. in Keoka Village, Getare Location, according to police.

A neighbour told police he was asleep when he heard a loud bang from the nearby home of his cousin, 55-year-old Faustina Nyarangi Onchwati.

He said he rushed to the scene and saw a man fleeing the house. Upon entering, he found a broken window and Nyarangi’s body inside, with a severely fractured skull.

Police responded quickly, processed the scene, and said preliminary investigations indicate that the attacker forcibly entered the house by breaking a window before assaulting the victim with a blunt object, causing fatal head injuries.

Authorities said the motive is yet to be established, but initial findings suggest it could be linked to a family dispute. The body was moved to the mortuary, where it awaits a post-mortem examination. The suspect was arrested, and investigations are ongoing pending arraignment.

Separately, police in Nyamira South Sub-County launched investigations after an elderly woman was found dead under unclear circumstances in Bokiambori Sub-location.

The body of 82-year-old Teresia Nyanchama was discovered lying outside a homestead belonging to a man identified as Sylvester Moracho in Materio Village, West Mugirango Location, about four kilometres from the police station.

Police said the deceased had visible injuries, including blood oozing from the left ear and a wound on the knee, and ants were observed on the body, particularly around the mouth and eyes.

Authorities noted that occupants of the homestead were missing at the time the body was found. Crime scene investigators from Nyamira processed the scene, and the body was moved to Nyamira County Referral Hospital mortuary, where it awaits a post-mortem examination.

In Nandi Central Sub-County, police launched investigations after an unidentified man’s body was found along a roadside in Kiplelgut Village on Thursday.

Authorities said the adult male was found lying in a prone position along the road leading to Kamurguywa, near a cattle dip. Officers who visited the scene reported no visible injuries. Preliminary information indicates that members of the public had seen the man the previous afternoon, appearing unwell.

Crime scene investigators from Kapsabet processed the scene, and the body was later moved to Nandi Hills Sub-County Mortuary, where it awaits a post-mortem to establish the cause of death. Police are working to identify the deceased and determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
