Hundreds of youth gathered in Nairobi under the banner of the ‘Niko Kadi Na Ruto’ movement, staging a show of solidarity and support for President William Ruto.
The youth procession culminated at Anniversary Towers, where speakers rallied young Kenyans to back the government’s development agenda and register as voters.
The gathering is part of a broader youth-driven civic mobilisation campaign encouraging political participation through the popular “Niko Kadi” slogan.
Addressing the crowd, Nicholas Galgalo, National President of Bunge la Mwananchi, said the initiative seeks to empower young people to actively shape the country’s political future while supporting the President’s bid for a second term.
“The ‘Tuko Kadi’ initiative is about ensuring young people are registered, informed and ready to participate in the democratic process,” Galgalo said. “It is also about supporting a leadership that is already delivering tangible results.”
Galgalo defended the government against critics, arguing that opposition to the President is not grounded in performance but is instead driven by ethnic considerations.
“The criticism directed at President Ruto is not about his work. It is largely driven by bias and animosity. When you look at the achievements on the ground, the progress is clear,” he said.
He cited several government initiatives as evidence of what he termed as meaningful transformation under the current administration.
Among them, Galgalo highlighted the construction of 273,000 housing units under the affordable housing programme.
“This is not a promise, it is an undeniable fact. Thousands of housing units have already been delivered, creating jobs and improving livelihoods,” he said.
He also pointed to the reduction in fertiliser prices, noting that the cost had dropped significantly from Sh7,000 before the current administration took office to about Sh2,500.
“That reduction has had a direct impact on farmers and food production across the country,” he added.
On education, Galgalo said the hiring of approximately 100,000 teachers demonstrates the government’s commitment to strengthening the sector.
“We are seeing deliberate investment in education, which is key to securing the future of this country,” he said.
The youth leader further referenced ongoing infrastructure projects, including the Mau Summit-Rironi road, describing them as critical to improving connectivity and boosting economic growth.
Participants at the rally also lauded the government’s “Kazi Majuu” labour mobility programme, which they said has enabled more than 530,000 Kenyans to secure employment opportunities abroad since September 2022.
“Niko Kadi” has emerged as a viral, youth-led civic movement since early 2026, encouraging young people to register as voters ahead of the next General Election.
The phrase, derived from Sheng slang meaning “I have a card,” signifies voter registration and has become a badge of civic engagement among the youth.
“I urge Kenyans to appreciate the president’s efforts and to remember that the journey, the work and the transformation all continue,” Galgalo said.
